Road expansion underway in Kalanki area

Kathmandu, October 27:

With the objective of easing traffic congestion in the Kalanki area, the Department of Roads (DoR) has started constructing a four-lane road from Soaltee Mod to Kalanki and 300 metres towards Thankot from the Kalanki chowk.

Tulasi Sitaula, director general of the DoR, said that the road construction has commenced

and will probably be completed within a month.

“The houses build occupying the needed area were dismantled last year,” Sitaula said. “The work of shifting electric poles and water pipes is almost complete, after the construction of sewer on both sides of the road, black topping will begin and the entire work will be completed soon.”

The DoR has also set up an office of the ‘Kathmandu Valley Road Improvement Project’ at the area, which looks after road construction. Four contractors are carrying out the whole work.

Dividing their work, the contractors are working in different places, said Sitaula, adding: “One

is managing the junction area, while the others are working in different parts.”

Sitaula said the total budget for the construction is about Rs 150 million for this year, which is solely funded by the government.
