KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 23

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea organized the 2023 Korean Culture Night in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

The program organised at Hotel Himalaya included, Hanbok Fashion Show: Korean traditional clothes and designs by Nepali designers, according to the statement issued by the Republic of Korea Embassy in Nepal.

The program was attended by Park Tae-young, Republic of Korea Ambassador to Nepal, Bharatmani Subedi Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, NKCCI, media personnels, Korean Committee presidents and other guests.

The program also included the Korean traditional desserts display: Display of Korean traditional desserts made with ingredients found in Nepal as well as similar foods in Nepal, the statement said.

It also included musical Performance: Jhigu Matina: Korean, Nepali and American Band members and Taekwondo demonstration by Nepal Police academy team.

During the program RoK Ambassador Park Tae-young said that the culture exchange is an important foundation of understanding each other. Further, Nepal and Korea share many cultural aspects like Buddhism, food and family values. I am fascinated by similarities and richness of the Nepali culture. The Korean Culture Night is an event annually to showcase various aspects of Korean culture with Nepali people organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal since 2014.

"As you know, Hallyu, the Korean Wave, has become a global cultural phenomenon. Nepal has also shown a strong interest in various Korean cultures. These days people all over Nepal are experiencing and enjoying Korean culture. Numerous families watch Korean dramas and movies at their home. More than 100,000 Nepali people practice Taekwondo Korean martial art. Many young people enjoy K-po2p music and dance."

We at the Korean Embassy in Nepal are eager to recognize and encourage Nepali people's enthusiastic interest in Korean culture by organizing various cultural events every year, ambassador added.

"As parts of those efforts, this year we organized the K-pop World Festival in Nepal in July, the Ambassador's Taekwondo Championship in September and the K-Culture Video Contest last month. We hosted the 2023 Korean Language Speech Contest this afternoon. Surprisingly, the contest winners' Korean was better than me. The Korean Culture Night is the concluding cultural event to wrap up this fruitful year."

"It is our sincere wish that your interest and understanding in Korean culture will become the solid foundation for strengthening exchanges and cooperation between Korea and Nepal, The relationship we share is not merely diplomatic. It is a bond forged by common values, shared experiences, and understanding culture between each other for the better future," RoK ambassador said.
