Amidst a function, a drinking water project constructed at a cost of over twenty million rupees in Siureni Bhanjyang Kharka in Bethanchowk Rural Municipality of Kavre has been handed over to the community.
The project was jointly handed over to the water and sanitation users committee (WSUC) during the inaugural ceremony by the president of the Rotary Club of Boudha, Ngawang Thile Sherpa, President of Bethanchowk Rural Municipality, and representatives from the Rotary clubs of Scotland, UK, and Nepal, according to Tukti Sherpa, Secretary at Rotary Club of Bouddha.
The project was hosted, supervised, and operated under the financial support given by the Rotary International Foundation Global Grant through the host club, Rotary Club of Boudha, along with international partner clubs - RC Elgin, RC East Sutherland, RC Durham, RC Forres, Rotary International District 1010, and Rotary International District 3292.
The project was initiated during the tenure of Charter President, Chhonbga Sherpa in 2019-20. Before the project was finalized with the Rotary Club of Boudha, the residents of Bethanchowk had reached out to several organizations, including NGOs and the government sector, for more than three years, according to Pasang Sherpa, a rotary member.
"Under the direction of the President of the Rotary Club of Boudha, Ngawang Thile Sherpa, the project has been completed and handed over to the villagers of Bhanjyang Kharka in Bethanchok Rural Municipality of Kavre," Sherpa said.
Access to a water supply and sanitation for their houses and individuals has been found to significantly improve their health and economic situation. Safe water supply and improved sanitation saved time and inconvenience while also increasing people's dignity. Through this project, 233 households, 2 schools, and 1407 people have benefited, according to Sherpa.
The drinking water project has a total cost of Rs 1 crore, 96 lahks, 63 thousand, and USD 257. In which the Bethanchok rural municipality contributed 49 lakhs, 22 thousand 646 from the local community, and public donations totalled 47 lakhs, 67 thousand 667, the cost of the Rotary club is 92 lakhs, 73 thousand 943.
