The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has directed its lawmaker Khagendra Sunar not to attend any formal events in his capacity as a public representative until an internal investigation into allegations against him is completed.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party said it had taken serious note of media reports, publicly circulated audio materials and questions raised about Sunar, including allegations of conduct undermining women's dignity, undue pressure, unwanted threats and suspicious financial transactions.
The party said its Central Disciplinary Commission had been instructed to immediately initiate an internal investigation to establish the facts. The restriction on attending formal events was intended to prevent the inquiry from being influenced and maintain ethical standards in public office, it said.
The RSP also expressed confidence that the relevant state agencies would conduct an independent, impartial and fact-based investigation into the allegations, pledging full cooperation with the authorities.
Reiterating that no one is above the law, the party said it would take further action in accordance with the law and its statute based on the findings of the state investigation and its internal inquiry.
The party said it would not provide political protection to anyone found to have violated the law or breached standards of conduct associated with public office.
