Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane convened an all-party meeting at Singha Durbar on Wednesday to discuss the recent communal violence in Sunsari and other pressing national issues, with leaders urging the government to take a proactive role in maintaining peace and social harmony.

All-party meeting underway at Singha Durbar

The meeting, held at the Public Accounts Committee hall, brought together leaders of major parliamentary parties, including Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa, CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, NCP Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden and Labour Culture Party General Secretary Aren Rai, among others.

According to RSP General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya, invitations were sent to all parties represented in the federal parliament, including those led by Upendra Yadav, Mahantha Thakur and CK Raut. Lamichhane also personally contacted party leaders to ensure participation.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Gagan Thapa said the government must play a leadership role in preserving peace, law and order, and communal harmony. "When the country faces such a sensitive situation, the Prime Minister must act as a leader and guardian of the nation," he said, adding that religious tolerance and social harmony are assets Nepal must protect.

Thapa urged Prime Minister Balendra Shah to coordinate with all three tiers of government to restore public confidence and strengthen social cohesion.

During the meeting, Prachanda recalled that political parties had previously forged common positions during national crises such as earthquakes, floods and political instability. He said the current situation similarly demands political maturity, dialogue and collective responsibility, stressing that the government should treat such sensitive national issues with utmost seriousness.
