Ruling, opposition leaders 'ready to resume House proceedings'

KATHMANDU: Leaders of the ruling and opposition parties have expressed a commitment to resume obstructed Parliament proceedings from Tuesday.

Speaking at a meeting called by Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar, they said they were ready to continue with the House meeting and seek solutions to the current problems though the Parliament.

Gharti had called the meeting with top leaders of major parties in a bid to resume obstructed Parliament proceedings.

Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress Vice-President Ram Chandra Paudel, UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal, former Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang among others were present at the meeting.

NC President Sushil Koirala, however, was absent in the meeting owing to some health issues, according to the Speaker's Secretariat.

The parties have said they would begin inter-party discussions with a view to resuming the House from tomorrow, Gharti said.

Gharti, meanwhile, said she was ready to hold discussions on the Constitution Amendment Bill and the Bill on National Reconstruction Authority simultaneously, if the parties agreed for the same.
