Ruling, opposition parties agree on power-sharing in NA thematic panels

Ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has agreed give the position of chair of Sustainable Development and Good Governance Committee of the National Assembly to the main opposition Nepali Congress.
NCP (NCP) has also pledged to give the position of chair of Parliamentary Accounts Committee to the Nepali Congress.
As per the decision on power sharing in NA thematic committees following a meeting between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, the remaining three thematic committees of the NA will be headed by the ruling party NCP (NCP).
According to sources, NC lawmaker Tara Devi Bhatta will be elected unopposed as the chair of Sustainable Development and Good Governance Committee. She is currently a member of National Concern and Coordination Committee.
A Parliament Secretariat official said the process of nominating committee chair would begin after Bhatta was made a member of the committee.
Lawmaker Ram Narayan Bidari has filed nomination for the chair of the Delegated Legislation and Government Assurances Committee. His nomination was presented by Suman Raj Pyakurel and seconded by Naina Kala Ojha. Lawmaker Dil Kumari Rawal Thapa has filed nomination for the chair of National Concern and Coordination Committee. Her nomination was proposed by Deepa Gurung.
Likewise, lawmaker Parshuram Meghi Gurung has filed nomination for the chair of Legislation Management Committee. His nomination was proposed by Uday Sharma Poudel and seconded by Thagendra Prakash Puri.
National Assembly Secretary Rajendra Phuyal said that the election of the committee chairs would be held in the respective committee tomorrow. Nominees for the posts will be elected unopposed and they will take oath of office from Chair of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsena.
