Ruling parties, UDMF to forward Constitution amendment
KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepali Congress and CPN Maoist Centre as well the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front on Thursday agreed to forward the Constitution amendment procedure at the House despite the opposition parties' objection.
At a meeting called by the Prime Minister and CPN MC Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal at his residence in Baluwatar this afternoon, the parties made an understanding that there was no any hurdle to proceed for the amendment after the January 2 Supreme Court verdict.
Meanwhile, the UDMF leaders told the NC-Maoist leaders at the meeting that they would support the amendment bill when it would be put to vote at the House.
The parties also agreed that the government would receive the Local Bodies Restructuring Commission's report at the earliest and move ahead for local, provincial and federal elections.
Dahal on behalf of the CPN MC, senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel on behalf of the Nepali Congress and Mahantha Thakur on behalf of the United Democratic Madhesi Front had led their respective sides in the meeting.
