KATHMANDU, AUGUST 28

Minister of Foreign Affairs NP Saud has said the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation will be made dynamic.

Speaking at the International Relations and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives today, he said an informal meeting of foreign ministers of SAARC countries would be held to give mobility to the SAARC. "During the upcoming United Nations General Assembly, though informally, a meeting of foreign ministers of SAARC nations will be held and discussions will be held on the dynamics and revival of SAARC," he said.

On a different note, he said the government had been insisting that the border dispute with the neighbouring countries should be resolved through mutual dialogue and discussion.

Minister Saud was of the opinion that foreign policy should not be differentiated based on the political parties, and added that it would be better to adopt uniformity in such policy.

In the meeting, Chairperson of CPN-UML and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli stressed that there was a lack of harmony between the government's policy and behaviour.

"Many questions have been raised in the Parliament and society regarding the ambiguity," he said.

Likewise, Chair of CPN (Unified Socialist) and former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said the relations with the neighbours should be made smooth and harmonious on the basis of mutual interest and respect. He also stressed the need to accord high priority for construction of Nijgadh International Airport.
