Satyarthi suggests high-power authority for reconstruction
KATHMANDU: Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi said that Nepal should move ahead by forming two different mechanisms to reconstruct the infrastructures damaged in the devastating earthquake of April 25.
Speaking at an interaction organised at the Reporters’ Club in the Capital on Sunday, Satyarthi, who is on a two-day visit to Nepal, said that a high-power authority should be formulated at national level for the reconstruction.
He further said that leaders of opposition parties, representatives of the government, civil society and former judges should be included in the authority.
Moreover, Satyarthi stated that an international coordination committee should also be formed to build trust from the international donors.
He said that high-power authority should take the responsibility of reconstruction and the international coordination committee should bring support from international communities in the reconstruction works.
Saying that he had floated the idea in a meeting with Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, Satyarthi informed that Koirala was positive towards it.
