KATHMANDU, MAY 2
The Supreme Court today issued a show cause notice on keeping former chief commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Deep Basnyat in judicial custody.
Basnyat has been in custody since December 2020 after the order of the Special Court on the charge of his involvement in the Lalita Niwas land scam.
A single bench of Justice Mira Khadka issued the order to furnish the reason within three days through the Office of the Attorney General.
Basnyat's son-in-law Prajwal Adhikari had filed a petition in the SC last Friday asking that he be allowed to fight his case while on bail by demanding Basnyat's release on the ground of his ailing health.
Basnyat has been infected with COVID-19 and undergoing treatment. The writ petition stated that 69-year-old Basnyat had been suffering from chronic illness.
The CIAA had filed a case against 110 individuals, including Basnyat, on 5 February 2020 for their involvement in transferring public land of Lalita Niwas in individual's name.
