SC show cause to govt, EC on NSP (A) case

Kathmandu, March 9:

The Supreme Court today sought explanations from the Election Commission (EC) and the government on why the closed-list of the candidates for the proportional representation (PR) system of election to the constituent assembly submitted by the Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandidevi) was rejected.

A single bench of Justice Min Bahadur Rayamajhi issued the notice following today’s initial hearing.

The bench has given seven days to the authorities to submit their explanations. The next hearing, to be held a day after receiving the explanations, will decide whether or not to issue stay order in the case as demanded by the NSP (A).

Senior Advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari, advocates Mithilesh Kumar Singh, Guna Nidhi Neupane, Dinesh Tripathi and Arbindra Kumar Singh pleaded on behalf of the NSP (A).

The party moved the apex court on Friday after the EC rejected to register the closed-list of its candidates for PR election, seeking quo warranto order to the EC.
