SC takes up Registrar General appointment

KATHMANDU: After a proposal of the Supreme Court (SC) to the government for the appointment of a Registrar General in the apex court one-and-a-half years ago failed to yield outcome as yet, the SC has forwarded the same again.

“We did the same thing twice since the government is yet to take any decision over the proposal,” said Lohit Chandra Shah, acting registrar at the apex court.

The proposal was presented in the Cabinet during the Maoist-led government. However, it was not approved. The SC wants its Registrar General with the equivalent capacity like that of the Chief Secretary of the government and General Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat. It sought the nod of the government for such appointment to carry out administrative job. Currently, the registrar has been performing the job as the chief administrator of the SC. Ministry of General Administration last year passed the proposal to the Cabinet but the latter did not take any decision.
