Scores attend Lohani funeral

Kathmandu, January 17:

The mortal remains of legal entrepreneur and famous TV presenter Indra Lohani were consigned to flames at Pashupati Aryaghat today.

Lohani, also the former secretary of Supreme Court Bar Association, died of heart attack yesterday.

His funeral pyre was lit by his younger brother Madhu Lohani. Earlier, a funeral procession was organised from Babarmahal to Aryaghat. A large number of leaders, lawyers, journalists and civilians took part in the procession.

Meanwhile, issuing separate press releases, the Nepali Congress and Reporters’ Club Nepal today expressed sorrow at Lohani’s demise. Lohani’s untimely death was a loss not only to the law and press sectors, but also to the nation, the releases read.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said he was shocked to hear the news of Lohani’s death. The PM extended deep condolences to the family and relatives of Lohani.

PM Prachanda said Lohani was a fighter for press freedom and had made important contribution to the movement for loktantra. The PM said Lohani’s death had caused an irreparable loss to Nepal’s press and legal sectors.
