Scores hurt in Bhaktapur mishap

Bhaktapur, May 13:

Forty-nine children were injured when a school bus met with an accident at Gudda VDC-6 of Bhaktapur today.

According to Metropolitan Police Circle Bhaktapur, a school bus of Antic Bhadgau English School met with an accident around 4:30 pm while ferrying students to their homes. The ill fated vehicle fell 75 feet down the road.

Among the injured, 24 are undergoing treatment in Korea-Nepal Friendship Hospital, Thimi, 15 in Kathmandu Medical College, Sinamangal, and the rest in Bhaktapur Hospital.

Blaming the school administration’s poor management for the accident, locals said they would not allow the vehicle to be removed from the accident site until the victims were provided with sufficient compensation.

Meanwhile, 20 persons were injured when two passenger buses collided this afternoon at Lalpatta along the Kadmaha-Gaighat section of the road.

Condition of driver Mudhusudhan Pokharel, staffer of District Health Office Udaypur Shantaram Paheli and Rajesh Shah has been reported to be critical. They have been taken to Lahan for further treatment.

A bus belonging to Omsai Travels heading to Gaighat from Biratnagar had collided with a bus heading to Kathmandu of Omshanti Travels.
