Scribe thrashed, robbed

Kathmandu, July 5:

A Kathmandu-based reporter of Naya Patrika daily, Ramhari Pandey, was attacked by a group of unidentified persons last night.

Pandey was returning home from his office at Chabahil when the incident occurred.

“Three persons followed me and kicked me from behind when I was walking and the street was a bit dark. I fell on the ground and they started beating me up. They threatened me not to write against corruption issues again,” he told this daily today.

He said the trio also robbed him of whatever cash he had been carrying, a mobile phone set and other valuables.

Pandey straight away reported the incident to a nearby police station and went to Om Hospital for treatment.

In another incident, Roshan Karki, a reporter of Nepal One Television was threatened in Kathmandu by an unidentified person on July 4. The person rang him up and threatened him over a story on smuggling of red sandalwood.

The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), in a statement issued here today condemned the attack and the threat on the journalists.
