KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 25

As the deadline for ratification of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact approaches, anti-US aid demonstrations have kept the capital streets busy, and chaotic.

Protesters and security personnel have been clashing with each other on regular basis, including on Thursday where cadres of various communist parties and other fringe parties has assembled to stage demonstrations.

In view of the same, security measures have been beefed up in the valley, especially around the restricted zones.

Personnel from Armed Police Force and riot police of Nepal Police have been deployed in New Baneshwar and Maitighar areas which have become a hotspot of sorts for these demonstrations.

Likewise, security arrangement has been heightened in and around Baluwatar area where the official residence of the Prime Minister is located. A thick presence of police can also be seen around Singhadurbar - the federal administrative centre of the country, and other sensitive areas.

Deliberations over the MCC compact, which was originally scheduled to be held on Thursday, have been postponed to 1:00pm today amid protests and lack of consensus among the political parties on the issue.
