Security for local polls par excellence: PM
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal DahalĀ said that the incidence of untoward activities were minimal as the security personnel were on high alert, saying that some political parties against the polls had vowed to commit vandalism during the local level polls.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Election Commission on Wednesday, PM Dahal informed that the reported acts of vandalism and arson attacks were mainly committed by the parties against the elections, adding that security personnel had detained anti-poll activists before they resorted to offenses, so there were less such incidents.
Prime Minister Dahal also acknowledged that some incidents were reported and informed that the government is concerned over the incidents that took place and will be dealt with seriously.
He also said that the attention of the government has been drawn to the issues raised by the political parties during the programme. Dahal referred to the Dolakha incident, where a CPN-UML cadre was allegedly killed by CPN Maoist Centre cadres, as tragic and assured of impartial investigation into the case.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dahal praised the proactive electoral process conducted by theĀ Election Commission, which, according to him, has created enthusiasm for the polls.
He said, "Had the Election Commission not worked relentlessly, the environment for the polls would not be enthused and the doubt about the polls among voters would not be dispelled".
