Security rehearsal ahead of BIMSTEC Summit

KATHMANDU: A security rehearsal was carried out in the capital today in line with security arrangements made for foreign guests attending the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit scheduled for August 30 and 31.

According to the security criteria, VIPs and VVIPs will be escorted under tight security — to be provided by Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and a team from National Investigation Department — from Tribhuvan International Airport to the hotel and between the summit venue and other destinations.

Security arrangements have been made for VIPs and VVIPs in line with the government's direction, said Deputy Inspector General of Police Manoj Neupane.

"Separate security measures have been adopted for each VVIP guest," he said, adding that security management preparations have been over. The Home Ministry has informed that security arrangements have been planned for guests attending the summit according to the VVIP Security Procedure, 2070 BS.

Heads of State or the Government of member nations including Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand are taking part in the summit.
