Seek alternatives, sit for talks: UML to agitators

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has called on the agitating parties to search for an alternative to the ongoing protests and work to resolve the crisis through the medium of talks so as to accelerate the constitution-drafting process.

Organising a press meet at the party headquarters in Dhumbarahi on Wednesday, the party said it was very serious about the Tarai-Madhes agitation ongoing for the past one month and inconveniencies caused by it to the locals.

“The party is sensitive about genuine demands of the agitating people, but some people who are against the constitution have used it as a tool to turn into a separatist and communal violence and ultimately to foil the constitution drafting,” party Chair KP Oli said on the occasion.

“The constitution is a dynamic document and federalism is a developing process. All democratic systems in the world have developed on the same ground and people’s rights are addressed accordingly,” he said, urging the agitating parties to seek their rights through a peaceful, democratic and appropriate channel.

When asked about the voluntary exclusion of some political parties from the CA, he said the party had the confidence of Madhes people and it was not against the constitution-drafting.
