‘Seek MoFA nod before meeting foreign diplomats’

Kathmandu, March 29

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has issued a circular to all 77 district coordination committees and 753 local levels, requesting them to obtain prior approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before meeting members of Kathmandu-based diplomatic missions and foreign officials visiting Nepal.

“It is reminded that government officials have a practice of coordinating with the MoFA for meeting any member of diplomatic mission and foreign officials visiting Nepal.

With the implementation of federal system, preparation of necessary norms related to meeting of government officials of all three levels — federal, provincial and local — with foreign diplomats and officials is under way. Therefore, all DCCs and local levels are asked to seek prior approval of the MoFA before any such meeting until the norms are developed,” read the MoFA circular.
