Senior UN official arriving
Kathmandu: United Nations Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson is arriving in Nepal on a three-day visit on April 30.
He was supposed to be here in early March, but he postponed his visit due to his ‘sinus infection’. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tara Prasad Pokhrel said Eliasson is visiting Nepal in connection with the UN World Humanitarian Summit scheduled to be held in Istanbul, Turkey in May and to take stock of post-earthquake humanitarian situation in Nepal.
He will call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and extend an invitation to the latter to attend the summit, according to Pokhrel.
The senior UN official will also call on President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and meet some government ministers, senior bureaucrats and officials of the National Reconstruction Authority.
Issues such as post-quake reconstruction, humanitarian crisis faced by Nepal due to the temblor and the blockade are among the issues likely to be discussed during his meetings with Nepali officials, according to a source.
