Seven alleged swindlers arrested

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested seven persons for their alleged involvement in swindling a youth of Rs 8.25 million in the pretext of supplying gold at a lower rate, from Kathmandu on Sunday.

They allegedly cheated Bal Ram Sah (33) of Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City in Dhanusha district, currently residing in KMC-23, into paying the amount to get the gold.

Earlier, the swindlers had asked Sah to meet them at a public place around the Yellow Gumba in Nagarjun Municipality on April 19 claiming to supply him with an amount of gold at a lower price.

However, they fled the scene after receiving the money from him.

The arrestees have been identified as Laxman Neupane (28) of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City, currently residing at KMC-16; Binod Gautam (22) of Samundradevi VDC-4 in Nuwakot district, currently living in Thankot of Kathmandu; Kamal Giri (35) of Chhatredeurali-4 in Dhading district, currently residing in Nagarjun Municipality; Sujan Basel (17) of Palungtar-6 in Gorkha district; Sabin Shakya (22) and Diana Shakya (19) of Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City-22; and Rupesh Shrestha (21) of Salyantar VDC-8 in Dhading district.

Giri was arrested from his rented room in Nagarjun Municipality whereas others were arrested from Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City, added police.

Police said they also seized three motorcycles, gold jewellery and Rs 800,000 in cash from the rented room of Giri.

Police said further investigation is going on.
