KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 1

Nepal has successfully attracted nearly 700,000 foreign tourists in the past nine months.

During the current year of 2023, a total of 692,372 tourists arrived in Nepal via air routes, as reported by the Nepal Tourism Board, citing data from the Immigration Department.

In September alone, 91,012 tourists entered Nepal, marking a significant increase compared to the same period last year when only 58,314 foreign tourists visited the country.

For context, in the year 2019, Nepal managed to welcome only 92,604 tourists.

The Nepal Tourism Board is optimistic that the number of foreign tourists will continue to rise in the coming months. Maniraj Lamichhane, the Board Director, mentioned that recent months have seen a gradual increase in the influx of tourists.

The latest tourist arrival figures represent 90.28 percent of the tourist numbers before the Covid-19 pandemic. The government's goal is to attract one million foreign tourists in 2023.

According to the records, the majority of tourists arriving in September are from India, totaling 28,642, followed by China with 8,174 visitors. The United States ranks third with 7,364 tourists, and Bangladesh is fourth with 3,716 visitors. Additionally, tourists from Australia, the UK, Sri Lanka, Germany, South Korea, and Israel have also contributed to the tourism influx.
