Seven persons arrested, fined for distributing promotional pamphlets

Kathmandu Metropolitan City today arrested seven people who were found distributing pamphlets of educational institutions and other organisations from different parts of the city.

In a bid to maintain cleanliness in the city, KMC has been arresting and fining people found littering in public places.

According to Inspector Dinesh Aryal seven people were arrested while they were distributing pamphlets and they were fined for littering in public places. “We have collected Rs 33,000 in fine today,” he added.

A team from Environment section of KMC with the help Metropolitan Police arrested seven people from Exhibition Road, Baneshwor, Bagbazar and  Putalisadak.

With the completion of SEE and Grade XII exams, different consultancies, colleges and educational institutions have started distributing promotional brochures, pamphlets and leaflets, according to Hari Kuwar, chief of Environment section at KMC. Streets are strewn with such promotional materials, making the city look dirty, he added

Kuwar informed that most of the arrested people were hired by educational institutions to distribute such promotional materials.

Sunita (name changed), one of the staffers at Motion Entrance Academy, said she did not know that KMC had banned distribution of promotional pamphlets, brochures and leaflets papers. She said, “I was asked by my office to distribute such materials.”
