Kathmandu, May 28:

The seven student unions today urged the All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) to withdraw its educational institutes strike targeted at private schools in some districts. The student bodies condemned the educational strike at Palpa along with other districts, which has led to confusion and uncertainty among the students and parents by the Maoists’ student wing. The student bodies requested the ANNISU-R to call off the strike as it would only hamper the students’ future and parents’ investment. Meanwhile, a meeting held today at the Nepal Students’ Union office announced further protests programmes against the February 1 royal move and vowed to fight for “full democracy”.

The meeting appealed to all student bodies to participate in the rally tomorrow at 4 pm from Battisputali in support of the movement called by the seven parties. The student bodies also threatened the government with dire consequences if it does not release all the detainees and stop illegal detentions. The unions also urged the Maoists to stop abducting students.

The unions condemned the government for detaining students and political activists illegally. They pointed out that student leaders were charged with Public Security Act.
