Seventeen docs chargesheeted by CIB suspended
Kathmandu, April 6
Nepal Medical Council today suspended medical registration of 17 doctors who were earlier arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau on the charge of using fake certificates to obtain medical degree and licence.
The doctors suspended by NMC, the regulatory body established to manage qualification and registration of medical practitioners, are Binita Yadav, Sujit Shrestha, Rajendra Prasad Das, Ram Babu Giri, Tulasi Prasad Mahato, Bahgwan Kewat Mallah, Santosh Kumar Yadav, Shailendra Kumar Mahato, Shyam Banu Sah, Md Kamarul Haq, Kalyan Bishwas, Pashupati Kumar Chaudhary Majhi, Md Ahmad Siddhiki, Afzal Hussein, Rajiv Kumar Jha, Prithvi Narayan Yadav and Pradeep Kumar Gupta.
A statement issued by the NMC stated that ‘Operation Quack’, a joint investigation conducted by NMC, Central Investigation Bureau and Higher Secondary Education Board, had found that all the 17 doctors had obtained fake academic certificates at different levels from different institutions. The CIB has already filed cases against them at the court.
The NMC said that doctors with permanent and temporary licences have been suspended and the concerned persons, who are awaiting licences, cannot appear in the licence exams to be held by the NMC, till the court issues a verdict.
Those who earned medical degree by tampering with their academic certificates or producing bogus credentials are liable to punishment under Section 26 and 27 of Nepal Medical Council Act, 2020.
