Shot in the arm of Gurkhas in UK

Kathmandu, November 5:

The Home Affairs Committee of the House of Commons (Lower House) of Britain yesterday directed the British Home Ministry to take immediate action to provide residential visas to the British Gurkhas, according to an ex-Gurkha soldier.

Talking to THT today, Padam Bahadur Gurung, chairman of the Gorkha Army Ex-Servicemen’s Organisation, said the Lower House wanted the British government to take immediate action to implement the British High Court’s recent verdict to provide residential rights to the British Gurkhas.

“The British High Court on September 30 has given a three-month ultimatum to British government to provide residential rights to British Gurkhas,” Gurung said, adding, “Therefore the HAC drew a four-point conclusion on Tuesday to draw the attention of Home Ministry to provide residential visas to British Gurkhas as soon as possible.”

According to Gurung, the committee also thanked the British Gurkhas for their bravery, honesty and the special service to the British Government and regretted the discriminating attitude shown to them.
