Singha Durbar at mercy of RPP-N

KATHMANDU: A day after their valley bandh, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) staged a gherao of Singha Durbar on Tuesday.

They began the gherao from 9 am and it is scheduled to end at 3 pm, followed by a sit-in protest at 4pm.

Meanwhile, party lawmaker Chandra Bahadur Gurung, and other leaders were injured when the police resorted to a lathi-charge when cadres tried to obstruct vehicles in Bhadrakali.

They are pressing for demands including the declaration of Nepal as a Hindu state and referendums on federalism and constitutional monarchy. Due to the the gherao programme traffic in the adjoining areas of Singha Durbar has been disrupted.

They had called a valley bandh on the very first day of their protest on Monday. The valley was hit hard by the bandh. All the markets, educational institutions, public transportation and industries remained closed.

At least 633 protesters were arrested including former minister Tanka Dhakal, deputy general secretary Prahlad Shah, central committee members Tara Luitel, Kishor Lindgen and Shyam Ghimire.

Party cadres also vandalised 29 vehicles including two belonging to the police in various places like Koteshwor, Balkhu and Gongabu accusing them of defying the bandh.
