Kathmandu, January 10:
Chairman of the Solid Waste Management and Resource Management Centre, Surya Man Shakya, today said that the dumping of garbage at Sisdole landfill site would probably start from the end of this month. On August 11, the Ministry of Local Development had declared that it would start dumping garbage collected from Kathmandu and Lalitpur at the site from January 1. But dumping could not begin as planned due to slow pace of construction and the failure to meet the demands put forth by the locals. The locals had demanded that they be provided employment opportunities and that measures be taken to protect environment.
Shakya said that a committee is being formed with participation of officials from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Lalitpur Sub-metropolitan City, locals from Sisdole to sort out the problems.
