Sociologists discuss challenges of federalism, democracy

KATHMANDU: Sociologists have underscored the need for formulating clear guidelines to tackle possible challenges on social harmony in the course of implementing federalism and democracy.

They said that sociologists should play a guiding role in institutionlising federalism and democracy of the country.

They were speaking at an event on 'Sociology, Present and Future' organised by the Central Department of Sociology at the Tribhuvan University (TU) and Sociology MPhil programme in the Capital, today.

Speaking at the event, TU Rector Guna Nidhi Neupane, who inaugurated the event, viewed that sociologists should act as guides towards making the society self-reliant and independent.

Likewise, TU Humanities and Social Sciences Dean, Sharad Chandra Thakur, said that suggestions of sociologists would help welfare of the country at a time when the country has been federated.

Around 150 sociologists across the country attended the event.

Meanwhile, discussions are underway on 18 papers.

The papers focus on globalisation and development, world social situation, gender equality, politics, disciplined education, health, ethnicity and protests among others.
