SPA to ‘decide on FSU election’
Kathmandu, February 3:
Prime Minister and president of the Nepali Congress Girija Prasad Koirala reportedly said today that the ongoing meeting of the Seven-Party Alliance (SPA) will take a decision on whether to hold the election to the Free Students’ Union before the CA election.
Koirala is learnt to have said this during a meeting with Pradeep Poudel, president of the Nepal Students’ Union, a student wing of the NC.
“During the meeting, Koirala also asked me whether holding the FSU election before CA polls will spoil the environment of the CA election,” Poudel said. “It was a regular meeting,” Poudel said, adding: “I told the PM that the FSU election should take place on the scheduled date as this election could help create a better environment for the FSU.”
Poudel said he told the PM that a code of conduct should be drafted to avoid confrontations during the FSU polls. “I told the PM that the parties should direct their respective student wings to avoid confrontations and practice healthy competition.”
Recently, the Maoist-affiliated All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary had warned of confrontations during the FSU election. The proposal of the ANNISU-R to postpone the FSU election was rejected by the NSU and the CPN (UML)-affiliated All Nepal Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU). In its proposal, the ANNISU-R had said that the FSU election could hamper the CA polls.
All student wings, including the ANNISU-R, have begun publicity campaigns for the FSU election.
