Speaker assures initiatives to address Govinda KC's demands

KATHMANDU: Speaker Onsari Gharti on Wednesday assured Dr Govinda KC, who is currently on his eighth fast-unto-death with various demands related reforms in Nepal medical education sector, that she would take initiatives to address his demands.

The Speaker had gone to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, where the doctor is fasting since July 10, to take stock of his health today.

Gharti also told Dr KC that she would discuss demands of the fasting doctor with major political parties in a bid to address his concerns.

During the meeting, Gharti had asked Dr KC to end strike considering his personal health.

In response, Dr KC, however, informed the chief of the legislative body that he resorted to the strike to ensure reforms in Nepal's medical education sector so that all Nepalis get quality health services.

He added that he was against promoting education and health services as means of moneymaking.

Meanwhile, supports of Dr KC chanted slogans demanding that the government address Dr KC's demands pronto, while the Speaker reached the hospital premises.
