KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 29
A special Christmas bazaar is scheduled to take place at Soaltee Hotel in Kathmandu on December 2.
The event, also known as AWON Bazaar, organized by Active Women of Nepal (AWON) for the past four decades, also serves as a charitable celebration.
The AWON Bazaar this year will be inaugurated by Mrs. Jane Krill Thompson, the wife of the U.S. Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R. Thompson. Mrs. Thompson is also the honorary president of AWON.
The bazaar, sponsored by Turkish Airlines, Nepal Airlines, Dabur Nepal, Carlsberg, and Rupy's International School, will feature over a hundred stalls, showcasing various startups, organic products, local productions, fashion wear, travel, and more, according to the statement issued by AWON.
The funds collected from the AWON Bazaar, where special priority is given to the works and product contributions from influential individuals in various fields based on their interest, are dedicated to AWON's charitable activities.
AWON, established more than 75 years ago by women and expatriates working at the American Embassy, is one of the oldest charitable organizations in the country. Over time, it has become a common organization of expats living in Nepal and Nepali active women, and not just limited to the American Embassy, AWON said.
AWON has been continuously providing assistance during crises such as earthquakes and the COVID-19 pandemic. President of AWON Baba Sarkar Shrestha says, "AWON has been actively contributing, whether it be relief collection and distribution during the devastating earthquake in Jajarkot or various other works such as scholarship programs, sanitary pad distribution to hundreds of students and rural women, support to old age homes, and orphanages."
The entry to AWON Bazaar is free, and the Bazaar will operate from 9 AM to 6 PM. The U.S. Ambassador's wife, Mrs. Jen Krill Thompson, will officially inaugurate the bazaar at 10 AM. Additionally, there will be an attractive gaming zone for children, making it a family-friendly event.
Similarly, a place has been set aside in AWON Bazaar to collect relief for Jajarkot earthquake victims in cooperation with the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal and Zonta Club. The organizers request the public to generously contribute new or used items in good condition for the earthquake victims through AWON Bazaar.
