Special Court acquits 33 people of sedition charges

Kathmandu, February 15

The Special Court today acquitted 33 people of sedition charges.

The government had filed cases of sedition against them accusing them of being cadres of CK Raut-led Alliance for Independent Madhes.

The government had filed charge sheets against them saying that leaflets advocating secession of Madhes were found in their possession, according to Spokesperson for the Special Court Nagendra Kesari Pokharel.

Among the 33 people who were acquitted by the Special Court today are Chandeshwar Mahato, Shyam Sundar Mandal, Surendra Sharma and Abdul Khan.

The accused were arrested from Lahan of Siraha district; Rajbiraj and Bhardaha of Saptari district; and Nepalgunj of Banke district.

A bench of Ratna Bahadur Bagchand, Chandi Raj Dhakal and Pramod Kumar Shrestha Vaidya delivered the verdict.
