Special security for constitution promulgation

Kathmandu, September 19

The government has put in place special security arrangements for the celebrations that would follow promulgation of the new constitution tomorrow.

An official at the Ministry of Home Affairs said security personnel from the Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and the National Investigation Department, both in civvies and uniform, have fanned out across the country, especially in the capital, to prevent any untoward incident during the celebrations.

Security agencies have beefed up security in and around the Constitutional Assembly and other vital installations, transits of the Valley and other sensitive areas. “Security personnel have been put on high alert to thwart any subversive activity. The government will not compromise on the security of the people,” he informed.

A police official informed that frisking of pedestrians and checking of vehicles have been stepped up to ensure fool-proof security. More than 10,000 cops from the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force have been deployed in the Valley and restricted areas on the basis of threat analysis.

The government has declared a two-day holiday from tomorrow to celebrate the promulgation of the new constitution and has appealed to the public to observe Dipwali to celebrate the historic moment.

According to the official, three-tier security arrangements will be put in place in vital installations. Similarly, special security arrangements have been made for the movement of VIP and VVIPs.
