Statute not acceptable: OBCF, Nepal

Kathmandu, September 20

Other Backward Class Federation, Nepal, today said they will not accept the new constitution that was announced without guaranteeing their rights.

Issuing a statement, the federation said the new constitution does not ensure formation of an OBC commission and proportional representation of OBCs. The federation would therefore continue its protest against the new constitution, the statement read. It said there was active participation of OBCs in the current protests in Madhesh.

“Earlier, the government had assured us of addressing our demands, but the new constitution does not incorporate the issues raised by the OBCs. Thus we urge people from all the backward and oppressed classes to continue their protest against the new constitution,” said Kaushal Kumar Singh, president, OBC Federation, Nepal.

The federation has also demanded declaration of those killed in the protests in Madhesh as martyrs, compensation to the bereaved families, free treatment of the injured and permanent government job to a family member of the deceased. It also expressed condolence for all those who died during the protests in Madhesh.
