Student unions submit joint memorandum to CPN-UML Chair Oli
Bhaktapur, September 25
Student unions today submitted a memorandum to the CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli urging him to prevent ratification of the Education Act (ninth amendment).
While receiving the memo Oli, who is also the former prime minister, said that a wrong precedent was being set regarding the passage of the bill by neglecting majority in the Parliament. He added that the bill could not be passed only by thumping the tables.
Oli added that there was no provision of doctors themselves providing compensation to the victims in case of death or any damage to the health resulting from their negligence, but surprisingly this provision was added while passing the bill.
He added that the bill should be passed in accordance with the report received by the respective committee and it could not be changed without the consent of the committee. Oli said that it will be difficult to withdraw the endorsed Act. However, it could be corrected from the Parliament.
Nepal Students Union Chair Nain Singh Mahar, ANNFSU chair Nabina Lama, ANNISU-Revolutionary chair Ranjit Tamang among other student union leaders were present on the occasion.
NSU Chair Mahar urged Oli to prevent the Act’s ratification by the President.
Similarly, ANNFSU Chair Lama said that the amendment Act was against the student’s future and capable candidates for the teachers posts were also barred from contesting.
