Students draw foreign minister’s attention

Kathmandu, December 11

Leaders of various agitating student unions have drawn the attention of Minister for Foreign Affairs Prakash Sharan Mahat towards the breach of protocol by foreign envoys in Kathmandu.

Student leaders representing CPN-UML, CPN-ML, Janamorcha Nepal, Nepal Workers and Peasant Party close Youth and Students Union held a meeting with Minister Mahat at his office in Singha Durbar to discuss the matter.

During the meeting, they sought Minister Mahat’s positive intervention to ensure that representatives of the diplomatic missions and foreign ambassadors do not meddle in Nepal’s internal affairs, including the constitution amendment process.

Youth Association Nepal President Rajiv Pahari and ANNFSU President Nabina Lama urged the Minister Mahat to prevent foreign ambassadors from holding meeting with local leaders with the government’s notice.

They argued that such meetings should be taken place following proper protocol and should be based on the respective countries’ need.

In response, Minister Mahat expressed his commitment to deal with the issue, shared ANNFSU’s RC Lamichhane.
