Kathmandu, April 7:
Former general secretary of Nepal Student Union (NSU), Gagan Thapa, today called on all students to take to the streets to launch a decisive movement for the restoration of democracy.
Addressing a corner meeting organised by the Baneshwor campus unit of the union the Baneshwor Chowk, Thapa appealed to the students to take part in a demonstration, which is being organised by political parties tomorrow to protest the Royal takeover.
Earlier, the central struggle committee of the NC(D)-affiliated Nepal Student Union took out spontaneous rallies in Koteshwor, Bhaktapur, Dhumbarahi and Mangalbazar.
Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress said in a press release issued today said the State had violated the students’ right to pursue their studies by arresting them.
The NC statement came in response to the arrest of Ganesh Bista, Narendra Bhatt and Tika Fulara, student leaders of the Nepal Students’ Union, from the Tribhuvan University’s Boys Hostel yesterday.
Dharma Bhandari, the secretary of the NC (D)-affiliated NSU, was also arrested from the TU hostel on Tuesday.
