Kathmandu, April 30:

The Association of Engineering Students (AES) today lifted the lockout at the dean’s office of the Institute of Engineering (IOE) and the Office of Controller of Examinations (OCE) of IOE after Tribhuvan University assured to quash the affiliation of Janakpur Engineering Campus and solve the problems within 26 days.

The examination will continue from tomorrow as the joint meeting held today between the representatives of TU, IOE and student representatives of JEC ended on a positive note. The TU officials assured them to quash the JEC’s affiliation and admit students in other private colleges of the IOE. There are 32 students in the JEC. Due to the lockout, the examination that was scheduled to begin today was obstructed. Shiv Kumar Khanal, spokesperson of AES said that if the TU backs out from fulfilling its commitment then all the student bodies and the AES will be compelled to come up with stronger protest programmes. The AES held the TU responsible for playing with the students’ future by granting affiliation to the college which lacked basic physical infrastructure. The students went ahead with the lockout when the dialogue between the students, the dean’s office and TU could not bear fruits.
