Students submit memo
Kathmandu, April 10
Student unions affiliated to three major political parties today submitted a memorandum to Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya, demanding uniform fee structure in all private schools.
The memorandum stated that it was the government’s responsibility to ensure free education to all but private schools were charging exorbitant fees. “We request KMC to set a uniform fee structure for all private schools and end disparities in the education sector.”
Student leaders of CPN-UML-affiliated All Nepal National Free Students Union, Nepali Congress -aligned Nepal Student Union and CPN-Maoist Centre’s All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary submitted the memorandum.
The student unions have also demanded that the KMC take action against schools overcharging students KMC Spokesperson Gyanendra Karki said the mayor told the student leaders that improving the quality of education in public schools would also end disparities in the education sector.
