Students warn of taming traders

Kathmandu, April 17:

Eight student unions affiliated to different political parties today said they would take stern action against wholesalers and retailers who create artificial shortage of daily consumer goods.

“Stern action will be taken against wholesalers and retailers who do not control the prices and sell daily commodities at an unaffordable price,” said Pradip Poudel, vice-president of Nepal Students Union (NSU) after a joint meeting here today.

The meet also endorsed a provision that provides the ‘government vigilantes’ who are actively involved in attacking the protestors a chance to join the movement against autocracy, or else the students unions would be compelled to take action against them. The eight student unions also organised a torch rally from Bhimsen Gola that ended in a corner meet. NSU vice-president Pradip Poudel, addressing the meet, said the movement would end only after the establishment of people’s democracy.
