KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 9

A decision has been taken to complete all the preparations for publicity in connection with the celebration of the upcoming 72nd National Democracy Day.

A meeting chaired by Secretary at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and Convenor of the Democracy Day Publicity Sub-committee Baikuntha Aryal took this decision today.

The meeting decided to mark the Day by organising various programmes in the media.

As per the decision, homes, offices and Mandala will be illuminated, national flag will be flown at homes and awareness-raising songs will be broadcast through electronic media.

The National Democracy Day is celebrated on Fagun 7 each year (February 19 this year) as per the Nepali calendar, commemorating the day in 1951 when the then king Tribhuvan declared the establishment of democracy in the country and the liberation of people from the yoke of the family rule of the Ranas.

The electronic media will host special talk show and panel discussion on topics related to Democracy Day while the print media or national level newspapers will publish special pull-outs, publications or collection of articles.

The agencies providing telecommunication service, including Nepal Telecom, will send Democracy Day best wishes through SMS while Nepal Television, Radio Nepal and other community and private media will also broadcast programmes on the importance of Democracy Day. Various media agencies, including Radio Nepal and television, will make arrangements for live telecast of the main programme of national Democracy Day.
