Sujata Koirala urges envoys to further economic diplomacy
KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sujata Koirala today directed the newly appointed Nepalese ambassadors to different missions abroad to effectively fulfil their task to give better exposure of Nepal in the international arena.
Speaking at a programme organised by Institute of Foreign Affairs, DPM Koirala said that the ambassadors should play proactive role to garner the support of international community for the development and reconstruction of the country which has been heaving a sigh of relief after the decade long insurgency.
“Our ambassadors should properly apprise the international community of the ongoing peace process and progress on the constitution writing process,” she added.
According to the DPM, it was high time that Nepal show its capacity and expertise by efficiently handling the leading post of Least Developed Countries.
“Since Nepal has a great opportunity at the moment, the role of our ambassadors is very crucial in this regard,” she said. She added that the economic diplomacy should be the dominant agenda of the Nepalese envoys.
“Attracting foreign investment and technology, increasing foreign assistance, promoting tourism and searching new dimensions of foreign employment should be the focal areas of the ambassadors,” she said.
Foreign Secretary Dr Madan Kumar Bhattarai assured the ambassadors that the ministry was always ready to offer assistance to the ambassadors.
In the three-day long programme, the ambassadors will be provided insights on various areas such as peace process, political development, government’s policy on tourism, hydropower and economic diplomacy, among others, by experts,political leaders and government officials.
