Supreme Court verdict on Sobhraj likely today

Kathmandu, January 12:

The Supreme Court is scheduled to issue a verdict tomorrow on an appeal filed by Charles Gurumukh Sobhraj against the lower courts’ decisions against him in a murder case.

A division bench of Justices Min Bahadur Rayamajhi and Kalyan Shrestha has been scheduled to issue a verdict in the case.

“I hope that the bench will decide the case tomorrow,” assistant spokesperson for the SC, Hemanta Rawal, said. The bench has been examining Sobhraj’s appeal. After concluding the hearing, the court had initially planned to issue a verdict on December 28, but the same was deferred.

The lower courts have convicted Sobhraj of killing Connie Zo Bronzich, an American National, in 1975. Sobhraj has been serving 20-year-jail term in the Central Jail.

He is also facing a separate charge, sub-judice in the Bhaktapur District Court, involving murder of a Canadian national Laurent Armond Carrierre.
