Supreme Court's surprise check finds 29 KDC staffer missing

KATHMANDU: A team from Supreme Court today conducted a surprised check at the Kathmandu District Court (KDC) and found 29 staffers absent from duty.

The apex court said it will seek explanation from the absentees and take appropriate legal action against them.

Out of the 167 staffers, 67 were assigned for filed duties. Among the total, 100 staffers who were supposed to attend in the office duty, 29 were absent in the peak office hour, according to a member of the team and assistant spokesperson, SC, Hemanta Rawal.

SC Registrar Dr Ram Krishna Timalsena had led the team that conducted the check at 2:15 pm. Joint Registrar Lohit Chandra Shah, Rawal and Section Officer Prakash Raut were among the other members of the team. “We will seek explanation from the absentees and will take appropriate action against them,” Rawal added.

According to him, it was an attempt of the Supreme Court to press for prompt service to the common people as people have serious complaints about the courts in the Kathmandu Valley. According to him, the initiative was one of many plans of newly appointed Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha who wants prompt justice to common people.

“The public do not have trust in the judiciary therefore the initiative was taken,” he added.
