Sushil Koirala to vie for top party post

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) acting president Sushil Koirala today announced his candidacy for the post of party president in the upcoming general convention. Justifying his candidacy for the party’s top post, Koirala said, “I never harboured any greed to grab an important portfolio. Hence, if I am elected for the post I would strive to maintain discipline in the party and encourage the young generation to prepare themselves to take on the mantle of party leadership.” He added that he would make the evaluation system more effective so that the party workers got their due.

Koirala informed that the party would announce the date for the convention shortly after doing necessary homework. “The GC, will most probably, be held by November,” he said, adding that he would stand for the young party workers. Senior leaders of the NC Sher Bahadur Deuba and Ram Chandra Paudel revealed that they had not yet made decisions whether to file their candidacy for the party’s top post.

Meanwhile, Koirala, speaking

at the Reporter’s Club, expressed dissatisfaction with the CPN-UML for not incorporating the NC’s agendas in the recently presented policy and programmes of the government. “The UML should not forget that the NC had played a key role in the formation of UML-led government,” he said.
