Sushila Koirala honoured

Kathmandu, May 19:

Sushila Koirala, wife of late Bisheswor Prasad Koirala, was honoured with the Gangadevi Chaudhari Memorial Honour today.

The award was instituted by Lunkarandas-Gangadevi Chaudhari Sahitya Kala Mandir and was awarded to Koirala for her contribution in women empowerment and awareness.

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala conferred the honour.

The letter of appreciation handed over to Koirala reads: Sushila Koirala’s contribution has not only been the foundation and power for the current change, but also opened up avenues for future prosperity and possibility. She has been documented as the first woman in the history of social awareness.

The honour also hails her contribution in keeping high honour of women and also said that her devotion, perseverance and consistency in the theatre and art has brought about changes in art.
