Teachers freed after arrest

KATHMANDU: Nearly 250 teachers were freed after being briefly detained on Friday.

The teachers were protesting in front of the Ministry of Education, Kesharmahal demanding implementation of the agreements made between them and the then government three years earlier.

National Teachers’ Union (NTU) had organised the protest programmes. Promotion of the temporary teachers to permanent status, declaration of those who were killed during the Maoist insurgency as martyrs and compensation to displaced teachers are a few of the demands made by the NTU.
